Art Walks Down Patchogue Streets

Patchogue Arts Festival spotlights Walking Arts Tour, theatre and the creative spirit.

Hundreds of residents recently walked the streets of Patchogue for art during the fourth annual Patchogue Arts Festival.

"It's a free day of art, music and poetry throughout Patchogue," said Jessica McAvoy of the Patchogue Arts Council and co-chair of the Walking Arts Tour. "Basically it's a way of taking artists in the community of all different genres, bringing them together to celebrate each other's creative spirits, and to involve the rest of the community as well."

The one-day event included festivities at the Patchogue Theatre, a historic reenactment of 19th century author Elizabeth Oakes Smith, self-guided walking arts tours, film screenings at the Plaza Media Arts Center, and musical performances in the theatre's lobby.

"It feels good to see all of the artists come out," McAvoy said. "To have a place to show their work in their own community and to see their family and friends come and experience it."

More than 20 artists currently have their artwork on display at various storefronts throughout the Village of Patchogue. Artwork from the Walking Arts Tour will be on display until November 13.
