Police: Drunk E. Patchogue Man Crashes Into Bus, One Seriously Injured

Angel Moreno-Reyes flees scene of crash and is arrested a few hours later in Bayport, police say.

A man driving drunk crashed into a Suffolk County Transit bus Tuesday morning on Montauk Highway in Patchogue, seriously injuring his passenger, police said.

The driver, Angel Moreno-Reyes, 21, of East Patchogue, fled the scene on foot after the accident, which occurred just west of Waterworks Road around 6:15 a.m., police said.

Moreno-Reyes was arrested a few hours later on South Fairview Avenue in Bayport and charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting involving physical injury, police said.

Moreno-Reyes was driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder westbound on Montauk Highway when his vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and struck an eastbound Suffolk County Transit bus, police said.

A 25-year-old Patchogue man, Marvin Garcia, a passenger in the Pathfinder, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, where he was admitted with a serious head injury. Two passengers on the bus were treated for minor injuries, police said.

Moreno-Reyes will be processed at the Fifth Precinct after being treated for a broken wrist, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

What are the chances that this guy is unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered and undocumented?

Probably 50 to 100%....Big Deal. These crimes effect everybody, and until we get serious about penalties for these crimes, sad to say, they'll continue.
Tell me are you more outraged that he is undocumented...or a drunk that has a vehicle to kill.

I am outraged on both counts. I am angry that yes people who drink and drive have no regard forothers, but when you are already driving illegally( i.e. unlicensed, unregistered and undocumented)and then you get behind the wheel drunk????That is total disregard, but lets keep fighting for their rights?

Sally, I don't mean for this to come across as a personal attack, but if, when you say undocumented, you mean an undocumented immigrant, and not someone who does not have all his/her proper vehicular documentation (a group you do also include), then my interpretation is that you're implying that it is slightly more acceptable to drive drunk if you are a documented US citizen who has the proper license and registration for her or his vehicle, which is ridiculous. The issue here, as Joe said, is drunk driving, and I agree with Joe that stringent, serious penalties are at least part of what is needed to try and stem this problem.
There is not the slightest indication in the article that the driver involved here was unlicensed, unregistered, or undocumented. Furthermore, let's face it - being licensed, registered, and/or documented has pretty much no bearing on how good a driver one is. The threshold for getting a driver's license is low. A 17-year-old, licensed, driver, for instance, is worse than any driver with a few years experience, licensed or not. My point is, I don't see a point in trying to introduce any further sources of moral outrage into what is already a morally outrageous situation - a drunk driving accident.

OK Drunk driving thing aside. Undocumented? what we are really talking about is illegal...... This person broke the laws of our country by coming in illegally. the are illegally making money tax free. they are driving without a licence or insurance and crashed. who is paying for that? me you sally everyone. I think all sources of moral outrage should be induced in every and all situations regarding illegal immigration. So tired of everyone dancing around the subject like it's not there. i know it's not "cool" to say these things. But no one does, ever. How long until an illegal enters your house does unspeakable things to your family? my great grandparents signed up, learned English paid taxes and worked the worst jobs around to give my parents and me a better life. My family is done paying their dues and i for one do not want to pay someone elses too
