Joe Perry, Chief of the Patchogue Fire Department, told Patch that the weight of the snow and ice, along with air conditioning units on the roof led to the collapse. The call came into the fire department at around 9:45 a.m.

Perry said that Finest Fitness was briefly evacuated due to it being an adjacent building, but has since been re-opened after Patchogue Village brought in an engineer who felt it was safe.

"Rider Avenue is going to remain closed between Terry Street and Main Street until they can make sure its secure," Perry said.
