Pat-Med School Budget, Propositions Pass

O'Brien, Rignola, LaVelle win BOE seats.

The proposed $162 million 2012-13 school budget passed Tuesday with a vote of 1988-1402. Anthony O’Brien, Christine Rignola and William LaVelle officially won the three open Board of Education seats in the unopposed elections. LaVelle’s write-in opponent, Anthony Russo, received only 469 votes to LaVelle’s 1399. Also passing was proposition 2, 1730-1145, which will change future Board of Education elections to an “at large” format where the top vote getters will get spots instead of specific seat challenges. Proposition 3 passed 1756-1137 to allow previously approved funds to be used toward capital projects. Then there were comments that were made about Mrs. Rignola. Though I do not know her personally, I have done my homework and can tell you she is not a contractual teacher for this district . She has been a sub here for several years and knows the district very well. I highly doubt that she would be someone that the union would want to use to "stack" the board as you state. She had already run for …   more ›

Talk Back: Parking Meters in Patchogue Village?

Early discussions are happening about bringing possible parking meters to Patchogue Village. How would you want to see them?

At the most recent Patchogue Village Board of Trustees meeting, it was announced that early talks to explore possibly bringing parking meters to Patchogue Village have begun. During Patch's recent live chat, Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri said it is being explored in order to help facilitate Patchogue Village's need for more parking with its future growth. "The reason for the parking meters is that it is apparent that within the next several years, with the growth of the downtown we are going to need additional parking," Pontieri said. "It is not something that should be borne by the commercial district and/or the residential community." Pontieri also cited nearby Villages such as Babylon, Port Jefferson, Amityville, Rockville …

Lee, don't know if anyone yet has bought the old townhall building all I know is that was there was a business group interested in buying the site and that they were going to tour the building with Trustee Crean. I think it is too early to know anything. And otherwise, it's OK to disagee. Joan: yes those developments are going to have their own parking but I doubt it will be enough. And with …   more ›

Talk Back: What Would You Want to See In Carnegie Library?

Plaza MAC, Historical Society, Pat-Med Library all want in on Carnegie Library, who do you want in there?

Three potential uses for the likely-to-be-moved Carnegie Library were pitched to community members that attended Wednesday night's Carnegie Library Community Summit. The Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center would like to use the space to teach media classes. Patchogue-Medford Library would like to use the space as a Young Adult center. And the Greater Patchogue Historical Society would like to use it to have a physical presence in Patchogue and to place their inventory of local history. More potential choices may emerge in the future, but for now, which of these three would you like to see in Carnegie Library? Or do you have another idea? Or just dislike all three? Tell us in the Poll below and in the Comments section.
