Due to an increased demand by businesses for potential employees who possess extensive knowledge and comprehensive training in career and technical skills, Eastern Suffolk BOCES is now offering opportunities to those who also need to learn English as a second language to order to apply.
The literacy program can provide a gateway to career and technical opportunities, while students learn hands-on skills and work alongside professionals in such fields as Automotive Technology, Plumbing and Heating, Clinical Medical Assisting, Certified Personal Training, Computer Service Technology, Cosmetology, and Culinary Arts. Collaboration between trade professionals and the English instructors will help students gain maximum benefits from both the technical and language programs, providing them with a solid foundation to begin a career in their chosen profession. Students will also have opportunities to work with ESBOCES staff in the agency’s new Employment Resource Center to define the “soft skills” necessary for successful careers.
Additionally, the Employment Resource Center is available to current students and alumni. For more information, call 419-1609.
