In the month of May, The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center will be commencing its partnership with Emerging Pictures with a presentation of The Bright Stream and La Boheme as part of our Opera and Ballet in Cinema Series, presented in HD and surround sound.
Ballet and Opera Schedule:
The Bright Stream
Sunday, May 6, 2:30pm; Tuesday, May 8, 6pm
Performed by the Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow, Russia
The Bright Stream is a boisterous and hilarious comical ballet in two acts that celebrates love, intrigue and life’s many absurdities. Known for his precise characterization in movement, choreographer Alexei Ratmansky uses Shostakovich’s robust folk music to tell this zany tale.
Running Time: 125 minutes. One 15-minute intermission.
La Boheme
Sunday, May 20, 2:30pm; Tuesday, May 22, 6pm
Performed by The Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, Spain
A warm coat, a glowing fire, a true friend, a lover’s kiss – La Boheme is the most romantic opera ever written. Puccini’s beloved melodies perfectly convey the heartbreak and passion of young, poor, Parisian artists falling in love. Running Time: 149 minutes. Two 10-minute intermissions.
The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center is a non-profit public charity organization dedicated to bringing the magic and power of movies and filmmaking to the hearts and minds of our community. Every month we provide our community with current quality independent films from around the world. We offer special films for children and cultural programming such as live broadcast of operas and ballet from the world stage. Starting 2013, we will be offering classes in screenwriting, editing and film production.
