Holy Angels Regional School Students Win Second Place in the iConnect Challenge!

On Monday, February 10th, a team of eighth graders from Holy Angels Regional School presented at the iConnect Challenge at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City. Being able to present and view their video in the IMAX Theater at the museum capped off months of hard work for the girls. In November, with the guidance and support of their Art teacher, Mrs. Romanelli and their Technology teacher, Miss Mitchell, Michaela Mowat, Lauren McKenzie, and Francesca Rossi entered the iConnect Challenge as “Team Angels”.

The challenge asked students in Middle School through 12th Grade to create a public service announcement for an educational app that supported STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) for iPads and other mobile devices. A number of public schools, as well as schools throughout the Diocese of Rockville Centre entered.

The girls immediately got to work- thinking of an app to feature, creating a scenario with story boarding, filming, and editing their video. The video entry was submitted to the contest on January 31st. All of Michaela, Lauren, and Francesca's hard work paid off when, during yesterday's iConnect celebration, they found out their “My Math Flashcards App” PSA won second place in the Middle School Division. The students were awarded certificates and iTunes gift cards.  Following the presentation, all the students were invited to explore the exhibits in the museum.

It was an exciting day for the girls, their parents, and teachers and a great way to end their time here at Holy Angels Regional before going off to high school in the Fall.
