SJC Faculty Member to Lead Film Discussion on Hitchcock Classic

ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE FACULTY MEMBER TO LEAD DISCUSSION ON HITCHCOCK CLASSIC REAR WINDOW

Patchogue, N.Y. – March 3, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) faculty member Peter Mascuch, Ph.D., will host a discussion on the classic Alfred Hitchcock film Rear Window on Monday, March 24 at 7 p.m. The screening is part of Mascuch’s Language of Film Seminar with the Plaza Cinema & Arts Center (MAC), and will take place at Shand’s Loft on the second floor of the BrickHouse Brewery located in downtown Patchogue.

Rear Window is a psychological thriller directed by Hitchcock, starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. In this classic film, an injured photographer (Stewart) watches his neighbors from his apartment window and is convinced that one of them is a murderer. In 1955, the film received four Academy Award nominations and won an Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Picture.

“Hitchcock's Rear Window is genuinely essential cinema,” said Dr. Mascuch, associate professor of English and American studies and coordinator of the film media studies program at SJC. “It is one of the most intriguing thrillers ever made by the ‘master of suspense’ and a great grab-bag of the best tricks and techniques of classical Hollywood storytelling style.”

Plaza MAC has included SJC faculty members in its Film Discussion Series since the beginning of 2013. Discussions were led by Peter Mascuch, SJC English and Writing Professor Thomas Grochowski and SJC Professor and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies Thomas Petriano.

The Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center is a non-profit public charity organization dedicated to bringing the magic and power of movies and filmmaking to the hearts and minds of the community.
