High Wind Warning in Effect as T-Storms Approach Pat-Med

Unseasonable storm, cold front approaching area with potentially damaging winds.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind Warning for Suffolk County ahead of a strong, stormy cold front pushing towards our area tonight that will bring gusty winds, heavy rain and a possibility of thunder and lightning.

The cold front approaching from the west is bringing severe weather to our south, including violent thunderstorm and tornadic activity in the Deep South. The front, while less violent to the north, will bring Long Island very heavy rainfall starting late Wednesday night as it begins to roll in.

A severe line of thunderstorms will be on the leading edge of the storm, bringing a strong possibility of thunder and cloud-to-ground lighting along with torrential downpours. Strong rains will follow behind the storm before clearing out throughout the day on Thursday.

The High Wind Warning is in effect for all of Long Island, warning against sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour and gusts of up to 60 miles per hour. Combined with an already soaked ground and additional rainfall, these strong winds could cause branches and trees to fall as well as power outages.

Additional lightning strikes could also cause power to fail.

The cold front will end up pushing out to sea by afternoon Thursday, allowing for clearing skies and dropping temperatures as Canadian air flows back into the area.

Stay tuned to Patch as we continue to monitor the storm!

Your barking dog complaint in North Patchogue is handled by Public Safety, Town of Broohaven. CallRead More them at 451-6161 and they will take action. The first time the owners will be warned, the next time they will receive a summons.

Don't know what the Town ordnance is, but if you live within the Village of Patchogue, I believeRead More there is a "15 minute rule" in the code. Basically, if the dog is barking for more than 15 continuous minutes, it's a violation subject to a fine. Call public safety at 475-1225. Keep in mind it's probably not their first priority (unless the dog has a bad attitude, and is carrying a weapon), but they will be responsive, eventually.
