Main Street Spots Numbered For Upcoming Meters

Meetings to introduce the meters to business owners and the general public to be set soon.

Parking spots on Main Street in Patchogue Village have been numbered in preparation of the parking meters debuting soon.

Additionally a meeting for business owners introducing the parking meters will be taking place, which was mentioned by deputy mayor Jack Krieger and Dave Kennedy, executive director of Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, at the Nov. 12 Village Board of Trustees meeting. A separate community meeting for the general public to explain the meters is also going to be set. Dates for both meetings have not yet been announced.

As previously reported, the meters are scheduled to first debut on Main Street this fall and come to Patchogue Village parking lots in spring 2014.

Revenue from the parking meters is expected to contribute toward possible creation of additional parking necessitated by Patchogue Village's growth.

Proposed parking rates, which were announced in July, are 25 cents per half hour or $5 flat rate for a full night.

Village residents are currently expected to be able to park freely in all parking areas except for Main Street. Residents who live outside of Patchogue Village will be able to park freely in about 65 percent of the parking spots all of the time, with 35 percent being metered at different times, Krieger told Patch in September.
