Nearby: Sayville Running Store Manager Not Injured in Boston Marathon Explosions

Local runner reportedly had left the area before the two blasts occurred.

A store manager of the Sayville Running Company participating in the Boston Marathon on Monday is safe following at least two explosions that were reported near the annual race's finish line.

The manager finished the race and had left the area when the explosions were heard, according to a store staff member, Chris, who told Patch that all cell service was down following the explosions.

“When we heard about it we immediately tried to reach him and a friend we also knew was there and we found out he was fine and were able to text him,” said Chris, who declined to give his last name.

There was little information regarding the incident that occurred near the grandstands at the end of the race, said Chris, and little chatter within running circles about what prompted the explosions.

“We’re all just kind of hoping it was something that malfunctioned. But it is an event with a ton of people and draws a ton of people," he said.

The race is held on Patriots' Day, a state holiday in Massachusetts that commemorates the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Many know the holiday as "Marathon Monday."
