Stony Brook University broke ground recently on new center that will showcase advanced medical research and treatment. The $194 Million Medical and Research Translation Building, will house advanced biomedical imaging and a PET/CT scanner. The MART will also contain 12 new classrooms and a 300-seat auditorium to host conferences, lectures and other events. There will also be an outpatient Cancer Center will include exam space for medical and surgical oncology as well as patient amenities and support

Whiz Kid: Brett Osman a Football Team Star, Volunteer and More.

Accomplishments:  Brett has been a multi-sport athlete at Miller Place High School during his four years.  As a freshman, he played Junior Varsity basketball, football and lacrosse.  He set his high school JV football record for the most rushing touchdowns in a season.  For the past three years, he has played Varsity football as a running back and safety, again setting his high school records for the most touchdowns in a season and career, and the most rushing yards in a season and career.

Comsewogue School Superintendent Joseph Rella takes a stand against comments U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan made regarding "white suburban moms" and that they are only against common core because their child isn't "as brilliant as they thought they were."

Bayport Residents: We Don't Need QuickChek Market/Gas Store in Town

The feedback from Bayport residents Tuesday night at a civic meeting following a presentation on a proposed convenience store and gas station for the corner of Snedecor Avenue and Montauk Highway was loud and clear: We don’t need it, we don’t want it and we will fight it.

The presentation by representatives of QuickChek, a family-owned NY-NJ metro-based gas station-food market chain, included a video about store operations and community involvement and talking points from the company’s Long Island real estate broker, a lawyer, an engineer and a traffic safety expert.

Main Street Spots Numbered For Upcoming Meters

Parking spots on Main Street in Patchogue Village have been numbered in preparation of the parking meters debuting soon. Additionally a meeting for business owners introducing the parking meters will be taking place, which was mentioned by deputy mayor Jack Krieger and Dave Kennedy, executive director of Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, at the Nov. 12 Village Board of Trustees meeting. A separate community meeting for the general public to explain the meters is also going to be set. Dates for both meetings have not yet been announced.

Sachem Responds To Student Data Leak Questions

Answers to questions Sachem Central School District has been receiving from the community regarding the leak of student information has been posted to the district's website Tuesday afternoon. The district discusses investigations they have been pursuing since late July 2013 from leaks they were informed of that summer, how the district was informed of the current breach, what information they are able to discuss among others.
