Photos: Hanukkah Celebration in Patchogue

Menorah lit on Main Street to start the holiday festivities.

A small crowd gathered in front of the Capital One bank on Main Street on Tuesday evening to light the first candle on the Menorah signifying the start of Hanukkah.

An eight-day celebration, the holiday means "the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness, of us reclaiming our faith and our Temple at a time when it was very difficult," according to Rabbi Joel Levinson.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed snacks and refreshments and sang festive songs.
