Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri honored at event.

Patchogue Village was honored at the Woman's Club's recently held 80th Anniversary celebration at West Lake Inn.

Pontieri was honored by the club for his strong leadership and continued dedication to the Town of Patchogue.

Established in 1930, the Woman’s Club celebrated its 80th Anniversary at a fundraiser on Dec. 4. Originally organized as a social club and support network for women, the club now dedicates much of its time to charitable causes.

“Our club has evolved into a community service organization,” Woman's Club President JoAnne Kellers said in a speech made at the event. “We are dedicated to the empowering of women and aiding those in need in our community.”

The event’s proceeds will provide scholarships to young women from the Patchogue-Medford, Bayport-Blue Point, Sayville and South Country school districts.

“It’s a wonderful group of dynamic women,” said past president Susanne Gamaldi in an interview following the event. “They’re always working together to reach our goals; even if we have differences, we put those aside for the better cause of the community.”
