Individual One on One Consultations to Visual Artists

The Patchogue Arts Council will be hosting individual consultations for visual artists with trained New York Foundation for the Arts Statewide Consultants on Friday, June 24th, 2011 from 5 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  at The Center for Visual Arts located at 199 Blue Point Ave, Blue Point NY.

Artists seeking professional feedback on questions related to finding exhibition opportunities, sharing a new body of work, preparing an artist statement, planning a website, locating artist residencies or other business issues will get a private 20 minute consultation. The fee is $20 for PAC members/$30 non members. If you decide to reserve time with both consultants the fee is $35/ $55 non members.

This is not a quality based portfolio review, but a chance to get practical and professional advice on the business of your fine art practices.

Registration is limited, please email info@PatchogueArts.org to reserve an appointment time and request a consulting questionnaire. The questionnaire needs to be turned in prior to attending. Artists may select which consultant to speak with. 

NYFA Consultants Beth Giacummo and JoAnne Dumas are local artists/ educators who are MARK alumni selected through a competitive process to become consultants capable of providing guidance to both emerging and established artists. NYFA, in collaboration with partnering organizations such as the East End Arts Council chose MARK Alumni based on their demonstrated professional development and leadership skills.

Consultant Bios
Artist/ Educator JoAnne Dumas holds both a BFA and MPS degree from Pratt Institute. She currently works primarily with digital imaging but has a broad background in printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, painting and drawing. JoAnne has primarily in the greater New York City area and has received several grants from NYFA for her artwork and for training in the business of art.
JoAnne has her own graphic design and photography business that has included experience in wedding, portrait and stock photography as well as web design for artists. She has taught art at all levels to children and adults and has had leadership roles in the New York State and Long Island Art Teachers Association. JoAnne is currently teaching fine art at Suffolk County Community College. Three years ago she initiated and continues to facilitate the North Shore Library Art Forum, open to all artists in any medium as a place to share and grow through monthly meetings. Artist/ Curator/ Educator Beth Giacummo holds a BFA from the School of Visual Arts, and an MFA in New Forms from Pratt Institute. As a mixed media installation artist, she has exhibited her work both locally and internationally. A passion for art glass and travel has led her to many cities and countries where she has had the opportunity to live / study- some of them include the Escola d’Arts Plastique I Disseny, Spain, the Pilchuck School of Glass, Seattle, Washington, and the Danish School of Design, Copenhagen, Denmark. As the Assistant Director of The Center for Visuals Arts in Blue Point she has been teaching Fine Arts to students of all ages for the past 11 years. Ms. Giacummo is also a professor of Fine Art at Briarcliffe College, and Chief curator for the Briarcliffe College Gallery in Bethpage NY. Former coordinator of the East End Arts Council Artist in Residence Program - most recently Ms. Giacummo has been appointed as the Museum Administrator and Chief curator for the Islip Art Museum, East Islip, NY. As a local arts activist, Ms. Giacummo is proud to serve as Vice President for the Patchogue Arts Council, Chair of Promotions for the Patchogue Arts Biennial and Co-chair of the Walking Arts Tour.   • Portfolio, no original work—in-jet or color prints of work, CD, DVD 
  • Questions related to the discussion topics you have selected.
