Opera in Cinema: CARMEN

WHEN: Sunday, July 29, 2:30pm & Tuesday, July 31, 6pm

From Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Italy

Lies. Lust. Murder. (And some great music too!) The thrilling story of Carmen tells of the fatal attraction between the titular hot-blooded gypsy and Don José, the upstanding corporal in the Spanish army. This production from La Scala stars opera greats Jonas Kaufmann (“suburb, heartbreaking”) and Erwin Schrott, with newcomer Anita Rachvelishvili making her wildly successful debut as Carmen – The New York Times raves: “She triumphed.” Don’t miss this opera classic that shines in a new production with “an unusual, concentrated focus, a fresh gravity” (NYTimes). Running Time: 172 minutes. Two 10 minute-intermissions. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
