Patch: What is your art, and how long have you been doing it?

Flaherty: My art is Photography. I discovered my passion for photography three years ago. Before I became enthralled with photography, I was a writer of short stories, plays, poetry etc.

Patch: What drew you to Artspace?

Flaherty: I wanted to come to Artspace to start a new path in my life. I grew up in Patchogue and have watched the town take itself to new heights, especially in the arts. The Idea of being surrounded by other artists and their work appealed to me. I also thought it would be a great opportunity as a single Mother to raise my daughter in such a diverse and cultural community in which she could experience and learn from.

Patch: What benefits have you found by living in an artist community?

Flaherty: Since living at Artspace I have had many doors and opportunties avilable to me. I am able to network with other resident artists, share ideas and be able to show my work more steadily. Artspace has given me the ability to become a bigger part of the community allowing me to work with other establishments within the Village to help promote myself and Artspace as a whole. Living in an artists community has ignited my creativity. I feel more inspired to work and create. Everyday I come home and walk through the doors of Artspace I feel grateful for the opportunites I've been given and the friendships I've made since moving here.

Patch: What is your favorite aspect of living in the Patchogue area?

Flaherty: My favorite aspect of living in the Patchogue area is being able to have access to all the wonderful resturants, stores, parks etc.. and all within walking distance.

Patch: What are your future goals?

Flaherty: My future goals are to raise my beautful seven-year old Daughter and to keep creating art.

Patch: Where can people see more of your work?

Flaherty: You can see more of my work at www.onesplitpea.net .
