Lone Survivor, the film depicting Patchogue Navy SEAL Michael Murphy as part of a four-member SEAL team during the mission that he was killed, is now playing in movie theaters nationwide as of Friday.

Lt. Michael Murphy, of Patchogue, was a part of a four-member SEAL team, and was shot on June 29, 2005 while on duty. Murphy has been posthumously honored with a warship, numerous awards, a previously released film and even a workout named after him.

The film had previously been screened for friends and family of Murphy in Ronkonkoma in early December, and entered a limited release on Dec. 27.

Actor Taylor Kitsch plays Murphy, and co-stars with Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.

God bless Murph and his family. Proud to of grown up in the same town as him and thankful to have his story to share with my children.

I teach my children who Lt. Murphy is when we walk in the post office although they don't understand now (b/c their little) I know one day they will understand that he is a hero in their Hometown. My heart always goes out to their family they have shared so much. Thank You

I saw the film last night. It is an excellent, technically correct rendering of a gripping story. All involved were deservedly commended for their Valor. Freedom is not free.

Saw the movie last night at Island 16. Very well done. It was very cool that the audience applauded when Mike Murphy's photo appeared on the screen at the end.
