Film Depicting Patchogue Navy SEAL Opens Nationwide

Lone Survivor depicts the 2005 mission during which Lt. Michael Murphy lost his life.

Lone Survivor, the film depicting Patchogue Navy SEAL Michael Murphy as part of a four-member SEAL team during the mission that he was killed, is now playing in movie theaters nationwide as of Friday.

Lt. Michael Murphy, of Patchogue, was a part of a four-member SEAL team, and was shot on June 29, 2005 while on duty. Murphy has been posthumously honored with a warship, numerous awards, a previously released film and even a workout named after him.

The film had previously been screened for friends and family of Murphy in Ronkonkoma in early December, and entered a limited release on Dec. 27.

Actor Taylor Kitsch plays Murphy, and co-stars with Mark Wahlberg, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.
