Patchogue Bands Prep for Great South Bay Festival

Here's your guide to local bands playing in the weekend-long music festival at Shorefront Park.

This weekend's Great South Bay Music Festival begins Friday at Shorefront Park, and more than a few of the bands playing hail from Patchogue.

A techo band with a slight rock edge, The Forensics will play Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. in the Cultural Tent. According to their Myspace, they formed in January 2009 and have played at local venues like Brick House Brewery and Bobbique.

Hydroyum, playing at 4:00 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. Saturday in the Cultural Tent, are a jazz/rock/funk band that combines mellow jazz sounds with faster electronic sounds as well. They have previously played at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, Brick House Brewery, and Bobbique.

Calico Galaxy, playing Sunday at 12:00 p.m. to 12:40 p.m. on the Blue Point Brews Stage, also plays in a rock/jazz style but has a more mellow sound than the previous two bands. They have played at The Wave and at Brick House Brewery.

Jay Scott, playing Sunday at 1:50 p.m. to 2:25 p.m. in the Cultural Tent, has an acoutic rock sound that is actually Patchogue-made. He recorded his 2008 album, Homegrown, in the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts. Scott plays with the Jay Scott Band and, according to his Myspace blog, has been recording new songs.

The Great South Bay Music Festival runs Friday at 4:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. For more information, visit www.greatsouthbaymusicfestival.com.
