PBS Lucero Documentary Gets Title, Trailer

Film to debut on PBS on Sept. 21 at 10 p.m.

The PBS documentary on the 2008 murder of Ecuadorean immigrant Marcelo Lucero is now officially titled “Not In Our Town: Light In The Darkness” and is set to premiere on PBS on Sept. 21 at 10 p.m.

A trailer for the film has also been posted onto Youtube by The Working Group, the production company producing the film. The trailer shows interviews with Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri, the victim's brother Joselo Lucero, victim's mother Maria Rosario Lucero and features the on Railroad Ave. and Sephton Place,  and  among other local scenes.

As , the documentary is part of the channel’s Not In Our Town series. Crews from the series have been filming in Patchogue at events such as the and at a .

The film, which was made over a two-year period since the attack, follows Pontieri, Joselo Lucero, community leaders, residents and students as they discuss the causes of the violent incident and work to heal the community says a PBS press release.

Actress Alfre Woodard will serve as narrator of the film.

Accompanying the film’s premiere will be a Not In Our Town’s National Week of Action event, where the film will be screened across the country to initiate discussion on issues of intolerance.

The documentary is the second film made after the events for their participation in hate crimes. The which was loosely based on the events. A  based on the events also recently played at .

The Not In Our Town series documents communities that have dealt with hate crimes. The series previously covered incidents Billings, MT and Northern California.
