Weekend Guide: Blood Drive, Art and Clam Jam

Weekend events for Sept. 3-6

Escape Hurricane Earl this weekend by donating toward saving a life, practicing Chinese martial arts or listening to a  slew of local bands. Here's a look at what's going on in town this Labor Day weekend.

Friday, Sept. 3

Chauncey Nedd and the Neddman Band, 10 p.m., Brick House Brewery, 67 West Main St., Patchogue

Chauncey Nedd and the Neddman Band have been together for 35 years and have an original sound that's sparked a large following on Long Island. They will play as part of Brickhouse Brewery's weekly Best Bands of Long Island series at 10 p.m.

Blood Drive, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Swan Lake Park Civic Association Community House, 86 Lake Drive, East Patchogue

The Swan Lake Park Civic Association will host a Blood Drive at its community house from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

T'ai Chi in the Park, 9-11 a.m., Shorefront Park, Rider Ave. and Smith St., Patchogue

This is the last of four informal gatherings for T'ai Chi Ch'uan, the Chinese martial art of concentration, relaxation, health and self-defense. The opportunity is free, and though it is not a class, learning opportunities are available. Gathering is weather permitting.

The Blues Box Mission Band, 7-11 p.m., Docksiders Tiki Bar at Sunset Harbour Marina, 90 Colonial Drive, East Patchogue

The Blues Box Mission Band, a Blues Brothers Tribute and R&B Revue, will be playing to kick off the Labor Day weekend. Joseph Felicetta and Bob Arndts are backed by a full R&B band of live musicians.

Bull Moose Party, 10 p.m., Brick House Brewery, 67 West Main St., Patchogue

Bull Moose Party is composed of Brett Desing on guitar, Steve Mall on mandolin and guitar, Tom Fitzgerald on slide guitar, Jessie Smith on bass, Brian Gabriel on drums, and Mike Lewis on keys. According to their Facebook page, they play "all the music you like but never hear."

Sunday, Sept. 5

Art Exhibit: London/Mielenhausen/Bishop, open daily, C2 Fine Art Gallery, 22 W. Main St., Patchogue

C2 Fine Art Gallery presents colorful encaustics by Marlene London, ancient-Roman-ruin-inspired mixed-media works by Robert Mielenhausen and vivid oil pastels on canvas by Becky Bishop.

13th Annual Dublin Deck Clam Jam, 4 p.m., Dublin Deck, 325 River Ave., Patchogue

Dublin Deck presents live talent from South Bound and Something Fresh, horseshoe tournaments and more. Four-on-four volleyball tournaments are $100 per team and prizes will be given to first, second and third place finishers. Dublin Deck offers 1,000 free clams and a 10-foot buffet with plenty of drink specials for the event.
