How I Stopped Smoking!

In order to stop smoking I slowly lowered the level of Nicotine that my body craved. Over a three to four month period I slowly reduced my craving by incrementally smoking cigarettes that had a lower nicotine content than that of the cigarettes that I have been smoking for decades.

(See the listing below.) https://www.erowid.org/plants/tobacco/tobacco_nic.shtml

I was smoking two packs of cigarettes daily that had a Nicotine level of 1.8 milligrams. I then purchased a pack of cigarettes that had a Nicotine level of .2 milligrams; this new cigarette has almost ten times less Nicotine. This new cigarette had a filter. I continued to smoke my favorite cigarette that had a nicotine level of 1.8 milligrams, but I also smoked Filter cigarettes from my second pack that had a nicotine level of .2 milligrams. The “name of the game” is to increase the number of Low Nicotine Cigarettes, and decrease the number of High Nicotine cigarettes that I smoked. The goal is to slowly switch to the Brand of cigarettes that has the lower amount of nicotine, and totally stop smoking the cigarettes that have 1.8 milligrams of Nicotine.  I believe that after a few months, my body craved less nicotine because it had acclimated itself to less nicotine.

I went one step farther; I selected a filter cigarette that had only .1 Milligram of Nicotine, and repeated the process. After about three to four months, I believe my cigarette addiction was only mental.

In my case I found myself in the hospital for chest pains. A doctor discussed my smoking history and said “you are going to die if you continue to smoking cigarettes.” The doctor then asked me for my cigarettes, and threw them in the trash can. OK… I now have some motivation to stop smoking! I then thought of the detrimental effects that smoking had on my participation in sports. It was at this point that I amazed myself; no cigarettes, and I had no urge to smoke. With less Nicotine and a bit of motivation; I actually managed to "kick the habit!" Wow!

I am not a medical doctor, consultant or therapist. This is only a description of how I stopped smoking, and does not represent a recommended or approved medical treatment. Do not start following this procedure without first consulting with, and getting approval and supervision, from your medical doctor.  The intent of this article is to spawn research that will develop procedures that will help people stop smoking.

Has anyone out there had any successful, or not so successful results, with a similar procedure, in an attempt to stop smoking?
