Bites Nearby: Canzaciti Roadhouse

Medford residents' new sports bar franchise expands to Patchogue.

There will not be any counting bottles of beer on the wall at Canzaciti Roadhouse, Patchogue's new restaurant located at 388 Medford Ave.

That's because Canz, as it is also known, offers patrons a bevy of beautiful waitresses fitted in short jean shorts, 60 flatscreen TVs and, true to the name, 140 different types of canned beer.

They also sell 48 different types of draft beer for approximately $8. For the non-beer drinkers Canz has non-alcoholic beverages, mixed drinks and a very unique drink called the "fishbowl," which is a mixed drink served in a half-gallon fish bowl with a bunch of straws for $30.

Canz can be very reasonable in price. A lunch of half a rack of ribs with sweet potato waffle fries, potato salad and a pickle cost $12.95. For desert, fried oreos served with ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and two cherries cost $4.95 before tax.

The list of appetizers, wraps, burgers and salads is nothing strange from the run-of-the-mill sports bar food, but it is done well and with a "Canz" spin. Take the "loaded hand-cut fries," a concoction made with cheddar and Monterrey jack cheeses and sprinkled with bacon bits.

The all-female wait staff is both energetic and accommodating.

"When they're on the floor they usually work well together," Canz manager Jeanne Repetti said.

However, Canz girls are not unique to Patchogue. Altogether there are around 85 Canz girls, at locations in Westbury and Astoria as well.

Matt Dill and Tim Lorito, both from Medford, own the original three Canz and are looking to expand later this year into a Manhattan location and then franchise Canz out.

Could Canz success be a result of their simple restaurant model that aims to please anyone of any age?

"Kids love the popcorn, teenagers love the girls, dads love the beer and moms love not to cook," Repetti said.

Canz it be so?

Check back Friday to Patch for reactions from the homeowners that live around the new restaurant, including traffic and valet parking issues on the street.
