Brick House Brewery Celebrates 14th Birthday

Local restaurant celebrates tradition of fine dining and local beers

On Sunday afternoon, Patchogue's very own Brick House Brewery celebrated its 14th year in business.

The 14th Birthday Party at the Brick House drew crowds of people who celebrated the success of the bar and restaurant with $3.00 pints of beer, a free buffet, and live music from the Electrix.

The Brick House Brewery opened its doors in June of 1996 as Patchogue's finest craft brewery. The brewery is the brainchild of George Hoag, Tom Keegan, and Jim McPeak, three local residents who wanted to take a more cost-effective approach to brewing their own beer.

The Brick House is in the oldest commercial building in Patchogue dating since 1870. The building formerly housed the Shand's Hardware Store, which was open from 1915 until 1990. The Brick House's charm is in its old-time feel; elements of the décor include some of the building's original components. The top of the bar is made from salvaged wood from the original flooring, and the original signage from Shand's Hardware is on display in the bar area and outside of the restaurant.

In just 14 years, the Brick House Brewery has become a fixture on the local dining scene, offering crowd-pleasing bar fare including burgers, wings, and sandwiches. The brewery offers a wide selection of craft beer brewed from hops grown on the premises. The hops are grown in a small outdoor beer garden located at the back of the restaurant. The Brick House's craft beers and its great cuisine have gathered a large following of diners from Patchogue and beyond.

"It's a full-service establishment," said McPeak. "We really accommodate everyone in the community. It's a very, very welcoming establishment."

"We are the first significant restaurant in Patchogue, and a lot have followed since," said Hoag.

The Brick House currently hosts live entertainment five nights a week, with an open mic night on Wednesday nights, karaoke on Thursday nights and live music Fridays and Saturdays. The Brick House recently updated its sound system to a high-end Allen and Heath system enhancing the sound of live acts. Remarked McPeak, "There's nothing like this in town."
