Medford Man Opens Wantagh Salon

Owner Harry Hernandez spoke with Patch on the opening of his latest establishment.

With a loyal clientele and seasoned staff of stylists, a Medford resident is hoping to raise the beauty bar in Wantagh with the opening Lushair Unisex Salon.

Harry Hernandez opened up shop on Park Avenue this past April. With nearly a decade of experience under his belt, Hernandez felt it was time to branch out with his own business.

Hernandez said once he started hairdressing, he knew he found what he was meant to do.

"Hairdressing was always in my ancestry and I didn't know until I was 23," Hernandez said. "The first time I picked up a pair of scissors, I knew it was something that I loved to do. I started off at a barber school in Manhattan and once I was working, I knew I wanted to cut women's hair as well. I graduated from beauty school shortly after."

Lushair hopes to target young professionals in addition to the families of Wantagh. As leader of the salon, Hernandez said his staff's primary goal is to make clients feel beautiful and confident when they walk out the door.

"We're going with a modern style salon, catering toward people that take pride in looking good," Hernandez explained. "We want to offer precision style haircutting, not just a haircut and a blowout. We want to educate our clients on product and how to maintain their look."

"I have a master colorist who is internationally known working with Wella and I am so lucky to have her," he added. "I also have an updo specialist here who is just great at what she does. The education I provide my team and the services we provide are top notch."

Aside from traditional hairstyling, the staff at Lushair offers professional airbrush makeup, Brazilian kertain treatments from Rejuvenal and a selection of state-of-the-art haircare products including Redken for Men.

Since opening, Lushair has reached out to the community in various ways, including sponsoring a contest in the . Hernandez believes giving back to the local community is essential in building a successful business.

"Ultimately I want to make a home here and be known as one of the best," he said. How long that could take, I don't know. But I want Wantagh, and our salon, to be recognized as a place people can come and get exceptional hairstyling."

Lushair is currently running a back-to-school promotion where all students will receive 50 percent off for the remainder of August. For more information visit Lushair's Facebook page
