Nearby: Sayville Target Store Demolition Could Start Any Day

While Target remains mum on a project to build a retail location at the former Attias Flea Market site in Sayville, the retailer has all the needed permits and approvals to begin demolition work at the site.

Islip Town planning officials say work could begin at any point within the next several months as the required permit expires mid summer.

The brand-name retailer has a demo permit now that asbestos removal has been completed at the site.

"They could pull the trigger at any point now,” Islip Town Planning Commissioner Dave Genaway told Patch in a phone interview Thursday. The building permits are good for a year from date of issue.

Target, however, remains silent and is not even acknowledging it’s building a store at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Sunrise Highway.

“Target currently does not have any information to share regarding a potential new store in Sayville. Typically, Target does not discuss new store openings more than one year in advance,” Stefanie Mohr, Target spokesperson, told Patch in an email Thursday.
