Photos: New Village Construction Digs Downward

Images from the demolition site.

Patch will be regularly taking updated photos from the demolition and construction of Tritec Real Estate Company's $100 million New Village plan that is set to bring 291 apartments, 46,000 square feet of retail space and 18,000 square feet of office space at the Four Corners intersection in Patchogue Village.

The site as of this Tuesday shows that nearly all of the remains of Swezey's have been cleared from the North Ocean Avenue and Main Street intersection area, and in some areas of the construction site have been dug downward.

I'm excited to see all the progress, hope it all works out to our benefit.

Is there a need for a project of this magnitude? I'd bet it will further destroy the business district. Empty stores and low income housing generally leads to more vandalism and crime.

Detailed or directional cutlines (captions) would add quite a bit of important information to these photos.

Thanks for the suggestion Paul. We'll be posting these often and if construction people are on site when I visit I'll try to find out what they are up to.

Michael: I was thinking more in terms of the direction the photo is taken, something simple like that. I was born and raised in Patchogue but still need to stop and look hard at some of the photos to determine what I'm seeing. For instance, there was a shot with the bell tower of the newer Swezey's in the background, but did not renogize the name of the store in the left of the frame. Simple reference like that would help. Thanks for replying and keep the photos coming. Obviously, it's a tremendously life-altering project being built at the Four Corners.

I still say that Patchogue needs a big box store like Wal-mart or Target along with a supermarket like the old A&P store until then you will not get many people into my old village, people then that may be able to afford to live in the apt. and could at least walk to get supplies now I have to get in my car to get anywhere unless I want to eat at the over priced food places in the village..

Why is there no sidewalk? Its very dangerous and will get fixed once the village gets sued because somebody got killed.

NO Parking, Traffic out of control. New tenants (291 apartments). Where is this so called Hotel? Why were the plans changed? This was never sold as apartments. You cannot drive down main street now during the day. We could not get to the Brickhouse as the road was closed and the rear parking lot closed off. This project will cause overcrowding and less access. What about South Country Schools, all these new kids coming in? The whole idea was sold one way and the reality is another. Typical political nonsense.
