Residents Wipe Store Shelves Clean For Winter Storm

Produce, sleds and shovels were long gone at these stores.

In the rush to have homes stocked up before winter storm Hercules dumps up to a foot of snow across the region, residents have picked clean several sections of local grocery and home improvement stores Thursday.

Produce was the item most noticeably out of stock at the Farmingville Stop and Shop at 2350 N. Ocean Ave. The bananas and strawberry sections in particular were wiped clean.

At the Medford location of Lowe's Home Improvement Store at 2796 Route 112, there were slim pickings among the three remaining snow blowers on the floor. All shovels had been long sold out, employees said.

Over at the Medford location of Target at 2975 Horseblock Road, bananas were in stock but the meat section was already picked apart. Shovels and sleds were, expectedly, out of stock. However, snowboards and snow toys were still on the shelves Thursday night.
