ShopRite Opens in Patchogue

Grocery store soft opens at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday, grand opening Sunday at 10 a.m.

The new ShopRite in Patchogue opens for business Friday morning.

The store, located at 95 Sunrise Highway next to , will have its soft opening Friday and Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and will have its grand opening on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The store held a private preview on Thursday evening, where local chamber members, politicians and other invitees were able to tour the store.

Harry Janson, Sr. is the owner of the Patchogue ShopRite as well as its Hauppauge location. Janson said the location has been in the making for the last 18 months to two years.

Janson said that what makes ShopRite different is its focus on carrying of specialty foods.

“We carry a lot, a huge variety of organics, and produce and other departments," he said. "We carry a huge variety of gluten-free because it is important, and natural foods."

Janson said that 400 employees, full-time and part-time have been hired to work in the new store.

During the store’s market study, Janson said he learned that the school district’s enrollment of a more than 30 percent Hispanic demographic means that the store has to pay attention to that.

“That means I better pay attention to that body of people and make sure I have the products they want,” Janson said.

The location is opening near the long-standing in Patchogue. When asked about the competition, Janson said that the store remains focused on their own beliefs.

“I think they do what they do and we wish them luck, we, for us we believe in pricing right, and that’s a thing for ShopRite and we also believe in variety, we also believe in quality, and have a lot of employees to get you in, get you out,” Janson said.

The store's regular store hours will be Mon.-Thurs. 6 a.m.-12 a.m., Sun. 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

I went this afternoon; It was packed! Not sure I like the layout of the merchandise, as it goes from food to cleaning products to light bulbs, etc, but they have great organic selections. They sell Applegate Farms products that i can only usually get at Whole Foods or Fairway.

I was there this morning at 8am and the parking lot was almost full. I like the store layout, the isles are wide and the seafood dept. was up and running early unlike the nearby competitor. They also carry Dr. Praeger's frozen foods which are hard to find. All the cash registers were open and I hope it stays that way. I hope the prices stay affordable.

Very good selection, much better than other local stores. Sausage casings, bones for stock, etc... right on the shelves along with a solid organic selection. Convenient location, too. Waldbaums on Waverly/Sunrise was my former main food store, that parking lot and area in general is a mess most of the day.

ShopRite in Patchogue NY is getting worst by the weeks, the coupon policy changes everyday, the first few weeks the policy was exactly the same as what is posted on the corporate website Wadefern Food Corp and now you would be lucky if they even take your coupons. I was in the store Friday 1/20/2012 morning before work and the store front manager nearly too my head off in front of several customers when I resited the stores policy to her. I wanted to purchase eight of the same items and the policy states that you are limited to four like coupons so I wanted to use four $.50 cent and four $.75 clearly within the guidelines in paragraph 6 of the policy. So when I told her what the store policy was she modified it and said that it meant four coupons for like items. In today's economy with everyone cutting corners if you use coupons DON'T SHOP HERE!! A store that does not live up to their own policies is not worth shopping at..

This may be a nice store, but the lack of self checkout is a problem.

Watch the cryovaced meats. They put them on sale right before they are about to expire. Cryovac meat should have a couple of weeks shelf life in fridge but not if they have it kicking around. Check dates!!
