Ten Things Singles Can Do Together to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Celebrating Valentine's Day, even if you're single.

1. Throw a huge singles’ party. Spread the word and tell each of your guests to bring along a single friend of the opposite sex. This way everyone can have fun mingling and playing mix and match.

2. Go out to dinner with one or more of your single friends, and exchange cards and small gifts with each other.

3. Celebrate the love that is in your life. Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. (Remember how much you loved celebrating Valentine’s Day as a kid -- giving cards, getting candy, and eating a chocolate cupcake decorated with red-hot hearts.) Send Valentine’s cards to all your friends and family, just like you used to do in elementary school. Buy the same kind of corny boxed cards that you loved as a kid, and have fun writing them out. Give out candy kisses and heart candy with sayings on it to everyone at work.

4. Celebrate the day with the children that are in your life, whether they are your own kids, your nieces and nephews, or you friend's children. Take them out for ice cream or bake a Valentine’s cake with them or just do whatever will make you feel young, hopeful, and filled with love.

5. If there is someone you have your eyes on, send this person an email or a card on Valentine’s Day. This can open the door to a relationship.

6. Celebrate your freedom and the bliss of being single. There probably is no worse place to be in than in a bad relationship or marriage that you just can’t seem to wheedle your way out of. Remember how it felt to be in that awful place and share this feeling with another single friend. Do remind each other how you used to whine and complain about your love life. Then reinforce the good news: How good it will feel to start over with someone new. Share the hard-earned lessons you’ve both learned about love and relationships, and know that these life lessons have paved the way for you to now manifest and enjoy a truly happy and healthy relationship.

7. Buy yourself a Valentine’s gift. Give yourself a day at the spa. Buy yourself a piece of jewelry or a gym membership. Gifts that help you look and be the best you possible are the greatest gifts of all to treat yourself to.

8. If you’ve been putting off joining an online dating service, ask a single friend to sign up for one with you, and have fun all year long sharing your adventures and misadventures with each other.

9. Treat yourself and another single friend or co-worker to a night out on Valentine’s Day -- something you both would like to do. For instance, go to a play, a movie, bowling, or any other fun thing you can think of.

10. Get together with some single friends over cocktails. Spend some time brainstorming how-to ideas that will help all of you map out a “Guide to Finding the Perfect Mate.” Be sure someone brings along a laptop to jot down the ideas that can later be emailed to each of you. For instance, think about the kinds of places you can meet potential mates, organize some singles’ get-togethers, and vow to join some fun classes together where you can meet other love-minded people. Then toast to the future and wish each other a hearty Godspeed in your joint and separate journeys toward a higher love.

Most of all -- keep the faith. Love is coming to us all!
