FIRST BOARD MEETING OF THE YEAR THIS MONDAY: ROMEO TO BE APPOINTED/PARKING METER FINES/TWO PUBLIC HEARINGS/CARNEGIE LIBRARY FINAL STEPS

Monday's 1/13/14 meeting of the Patchogue Village Board of Trustees has a number of important issues on the agenda. In advance of that meeting here are some of the most important:

Romeo to be appointed Village Justice

Village Justice McGuire has retired as of 12/31/13. While there is an election soon to fill that spot (March 18th) the Mayor intends to appoint Patchogue 2014 candidate Romeo to that position in the meantime. Approval subject to a vote of the entire Board.

Trustee Krieger to present schedule of parking meter fines for approval

While parking metering has begun on a limited basis a temporary hold on fining for violations is also in place. Monday the Board will set a schedule of fines that will be applied when violations are actually ticketed which should be soon. No amounts have been made public...they will be announced for the first time at the meeting.

Carnegie Library ownership to be formally transferred to the Patchogue Medford Library system

After what has seemed a long time the Village is now ready to transfer full ownership of the land and building where the Carnegie Library now sits. The Patchogue Medford Library system will take full ownership of the building in anticipation of a 1.5 million dollar renovation of the building to come in the future. In the meantime the library system has agreed to pay to the village 62,500 to help pay for foundation work already completed at the present site.

Public Hearing on new parking restrictions: west side of Railroad Avenue

Proposed law to limit most of the west side of Railroad to parking by “permit only”, no metering as a result on that side of the street. Public will be able to comment prior to the vote.

Sandwich Board restrictions for village businesses

Restriction to limit businesses to one board per business along with size limits on such signs. Public will have a chance to speak on this proposal prior to the Board vote.

Alive at Five Schedule and request for a Friday date to be made

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kennedy will be announcing the dates for Alive at Five for this year. In addition a request will be made to restore one Friday

evening to the schedule. Later in the agenda Trustee Crean will introduce a resolution to approve the recommended dates.

Please note that the above listing is a partial listing of all the items on the agenda for this meeting the first meeting of the Board this year. The public is allowed to speak at each of the two public hearings with respect to the issue of the public hearing only. The last agenda item of the night will be the Public to Be Heard portion at which time any speaker may address any subject of concern.

The Citizens Campaign for Open Village government has been handing out what we call the Public Packet which is a copy of the agenda. Copies are limited and handed out on a first come first served basis due to printing costs. The meeting as per our policy will be filmed and video for the meeting will appear approximately one week later. See the Patch for notice of the publication of the video to You Tube.
