Gershow Recycling on National Geographic Channel

I watched Gershow Recycling on National Geographic "Break it Down: New York Scrap Yard” on May 6, 2011. It was pretty good and interesting. I did not know that such a large scrap metal facility was right down the road. The thing I found most interesting about the show was that the owners follow the prices of metals in the market and that is the price they pay for scrap metal people when people come in and drop off junk. I did not know you could go down the Gershow and get money for old scrap metal. I had an old shed when I bought my house. I was really big, and I mean really big, but I did not want it. I posted an ad on craigslist and said whoever wanted it could have it for free. I got a call in 2 minutes and somebody was at my house in 5. I gave it away. The guy taking it down told me he was going to put it up in his yard. Maybe, but I had no idea that it probably was worth a few hundred or a thousand bucks just in the metal. I think it was aluminum. One other interesting thing I found on the NatGeo show was that when metals prices go down, they just keep buying, but they stop selling. When the price turns up again, then they start to sell. Common sense, I guess, but I found it interesting.

The next airing of the Gershow Recycling on "Break it Down” airs on Thursday, May 12, at 6PM ET according to Gershow’s website. I would recommend you check it out. I thought it was pretty good.
