Baby Layla Enters the World With a Little Help From Her Friends

First baby ALMOST born on Davis Park Fire Island.

While vacationing at Davis Park, my sister, Cristin Forde was nine months pregnant and started having contractions at 7 a.m. on the morning of July 11. She was not due to enter the world until July 19.

We decided we were going on the 8 o'clock ferry, but by the time we walked there her contractions were less than 4 minutes apart.

We went to the Davis Park Fire Dept. and Matt (also from the Davis Park Ferry Co.) suggested we call the SCPD Marine Bureau.

They came to get us in 8 minutes and got us across the sound in 5 minutes. By the time we got to the ferry dock a was already there waiting.

The SCPD gave the ambulance an escort to Stony Brook because she was suppose to have a C-Section. Dr. O'Keefe saw how quickly her labor progressed and he said she could deliver her vaginally. She did and baby and mom are doing great!
