My Begging Body 'Mom'ory

Is it just me, or is summer vacation way tooooo long?

My body is begging for September. Actually, it's screaming for the bus to come and take away my kids. I have gained six pounds since they've been home and my belly is not happy. My butt is not happy, and certainly my arms are not happy. I've discussed this with my confidantes as well. We are all in the same boat and, with the added weight, the boat is sinking fast! I swore off shorts last year as a courtesy to my family and friends, but I can't even fit properly into my slouchy sweats or capris this year. It's not fair. I think I am a good person. I don't deserve this. I take my kids to all their appointments, playdates, vacations, and parties. I don't (usually) eat the cake at birthdays and I rarely have a burger at a barbecue. I am, by no means, a couch potato. My brain just knows that I am not in normal 'school' routine and my body is suffering so my kids can enjoy their time off. Hmmpphh....My vitamins sit by the wayside most mornings with a full glass of water, as I opt for another cup of caffeine instead. Hey, I need it...did I mention it's summer vacation? What's really not fair is that my husband comes in from mowing the lawn, beer in hand, and exclaims that he thinks he dropped a few pounds...and we have a ride-on mower! With daggers in my eyes, I turn away, no kind words able to escape my mouth. It's better to say nothing at all. Breathe, breathe, breathe. I will seize September! I'm sure I will cry as my children get ready for school, but come 9:15, I will bask in the afterglow of the school bus fumes. I vow to look so good by October, that people will think I am the babysitter trick-or-treating with my kids on Halloween. I will exercise more, eat bigger salads, and drink less wine.  No, wait, I mean, drink more wine and whine less about exercise and salads. I can't give up everything at once.
