Sheryl WuDunn: "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide."

The Institute for the Study of Religion in Community Life, in conjunction with the Offices of the President and Provost at St. Joseph’s College, are pleased to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheryl WuDunn to the Long Island Campus  on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the D’Ecclesiis Auditorium. WuDunn’s lecture is entitled, “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.”

The first Asian American reporter to win a Pulitzer Prize, WuDunn is the best-selling author of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, which is about the many challenges women face throughout the world. WuDunn is the senior managing director at Mid-Market Securities, an investment banking firm, and the president of TripleEdge, a social investment consultancy. This fall, WuDunn begins her senior fellowship at Yale University where she will be co-teaching a course in global affairs with a focus on China’s economic development.

WuDunn has spoke about philanthropy and China’s economy on television programs such as Fox Business News, The Colbert Report, Charlie Rose and NBC’s Dateline. She graduated from Cornell University, where she is currently a trustee, and received her MBA from Harvard Business School and her MPA from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School.
