Third Annual Stand Up for the Homeless

St. Joseph's College is proud to announce that it will provide a venue for the third annual Stand Up for the Homeless event, sponsored by the Office of the Suffolk County Executive, on Wednesday, August 4 in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on its Long Island Campus. This is the second year the event will be held at the College.

The annual Stand Up for the Homeless event is a component of County Executive Steve Levy's 10-year plan to end homelessness in Suffolk County. Throughout the day, homeless individuals in attendance will have access to free services and products offered by a number of non-profit and government agencies. Services that will be provided include health and dental screenings, housing and shelter placement, employment opportunities, free haircuts, a clothing drive and public assistance counseling. In addition, each individual attending the event will be provided with a free boxed lunch, and each attendee will be personally escorted by a volunteer throughout the event.

"We're proud to once again bring our Stand Up for the Homeless event to the campus of St. Joseph's College," said Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy. "Our gracious hosts were a major reason in the increasing success we had with the event last year, in which over 550 of Suffolk's neediest individuals were brought together with 70 government and volunteer agencies that could offer them support. That was a great turnout, but we're not just going to rest on our laurels; working with the staff at St. Joseph's College and our many volunteers, we are going to ensure that our third annual Stand Up for the Homeless event is truly the best one yet."

At last year's Stand Up for the Homeless event, more than 250 volunteers gathered in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center to assist homeless attendees. For more information or if you are interested in volunteering at the event, please call 631.854.5884.
