Grant Program Still Open...for now

Over the past few days I see that there has been some comment once again and no doubt not for the last time about the changes in Patchogue Village. I find myself somewhere in between the good that has been done, some stuff that needs changing, but I have always had the opinion that the future is still open to change and whatever shortcomings exist can be addressed while all the good is kept in place. That said I would recommend to anyone buying in Patchogue Village. There are a lot of homes, condos and coops for sale. Recently I saw on News Channel 12 that Suffolk County is promoting a grant program for first time home buyers that would help eligible persons move to Patchogue Village (and other nearby communities too). A first time home buyers assistance program provides help to make down payments: up to 14,000 which is substantial.  Not everyone is eligible and there is a catch: you must live in your home for five  years to gain forgiveness for what initially begins as an interest free loan. But if you do all is forgiven after five years on the grant amount. That is a good deal.  Another catch: the deadline for applying is fast approaching which means that if you qualify you have to act fast. That should take you to a description page of the program. I also understand that the village Community Development Agency (CDA) stands ready to help with advice. That organization can be contacted at its web link. Look for CDA on the village website, contact person is Marian Russo.
