The Meters Are Coming!

This Monday at 6 p.m. the Patchogue Village Board of Trustees will be meeting and holding a public hearing on new proposed parking zones in the village that will be metered. A vote on the proposed law is expected immediately following the public hearing. Proposed zones: parking lots 6 (Church street lot ) and parking lot 1 (area generally around back of the Patchogue Theater), both sides of Rail Road avenue from Main street to South street, northerly Main street from Holbrook road to Maple avenue, southerly side of Main street from West avenue to Maple, easterly side of South Ocean between Main street and Terry street.

The proposed legislation leaves rates and hours to be decided later pretty much. As with all reported above there are exceptions which makes attending the meeting if possible even more important to get all the details. The above are general descriptions and there are exceptions for special areas such as fifteen minute parking zones already in existence.

That this plan has been coming should come as no secret. Interested residents can look at video taken at a recent Board meeting where elements of what is being proposed has already been discussed and more. The segment of the meeting provides back ground detail. It can be found at:

At the site for the Citizens Campaign for Open Village government go to Board meeting of 5/28/13 time reference : 1:01:19 Level G representative.  Level G is the company that is consulting on the metered parking plan for the Village and their representative explains what lies ahead if the plan is adopted.

At a public hearing any resident may speak. In the event of a large turnout the Mayor does have the option of limiting each speaker to no more than three minutes time to allow all who wish to express their views an equal chance to do so.

I urge all who can do so to attend the meeting.
