Running for a Seat on the Patchogue Medford Board of Education

(Editor's note: Patchogue Medford BOE candidates are free to submit letters to the editor to ryan@patch.com explaining why voters should elect them to the board)

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

My name is Kelli Anne Jennings and I am an avid member of the Medford community. I have my BA in Speech Pathology and my Master's in Special Education. I am also a Level 1 certified Track and Field coach.

I have experience working in private and public schools working primarily with children with Autism. I also do agency work in which I go into the child' s home to work with them. I have two boys who attend Tremont Elementary. I am a member of the Tremont PTA and was just elected as the Recording Secretary and I am also the Committee Chairperson for Pack 40. I am a runner and I also do crossfit at Grassfed Crossfit in Medford.

I have decided to run for the Board of Education because I feel that some changes need to be made both in education and in our community. I would like to work closely with the community and give them more opportunities to be involved in the education and well being of our schools.

I believe parents need to be more involved and need to know and communicate better with the teachers and administration and let be more involved in school activities and programs. I want to work closely with teachers so that they can have a voice in choosing programs such as Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies. I also want to see more textbooks and also I would like to put desks in each first and second grade instead students sitting at a long table.

I want to be able to help the children in our district experience the best education we can offer even if that means we need to change the curriculum. I would like to implement SEPTA(Special Education PTA) because I feel that these parents and students need to be involved in our community as well and that they too should have a voice and opinion about what goes in our school and community. Please go out and vote for the Budget and hope to have your support on May 20th. Thank you.

Kelli Anne Jennings
