4 X 4 SUV -vs- Efficient Alternative

What are your thoughts?

Why does the Mayor need a 4x4 SUV, to get around in the Village?

Patchogue is Progressive in the eyes of so many other Towns and Villages, our Business Improvement District (BID) is asked for advice as well as the Mayor.  Our Administration is trying to increase foot traffic, expand green commuting with Bike Lockers, and make downtown a friendly convenient place for residents and visitors, therefore increasing our "Walk Ability Rating".

The need to go to other Towns in Suffolk, and occasional trips to Albany, is understood. Despite the fact that the Village buys bulk fuel, SUV's today are still the most inefficient type of vehicle. I am requesting thought be given for an economical cost saving approach to the transportation need.   The Village owns multiple SUV's and uses them in the DPW and Code Enforcement.  If the Mayor needs to make a trip to Albany, he could possibly use one of those vehicles, and if he has to go to the city, he could take advantage of the close proximity of the LIRR that is within walking distance to Village Hall.   If we absolutely have to have a leased vehicle, I ask that consideration being given to finding the most economical model of vehicle available.  And possibly consideration given to getting electric or small golf car style options for transportation within the Village, like on Shelter Island.   The bid is out for a vehicle, and it has not been purchased yet. Your ideas do count, take advantage of the links on the Village Website to reach your elected officials to tell them how you feel before it is to late.

Your barking dog complaint in North Patchogue is handled by Public Safety, Town of Broohaven. CallRead More them at 451-6161 and they will take action. The first time the owners will be warned, the next time they will receive a summons.

Don't know what the Town ordnance is, but if you live within the Village of Patchogue, I believeRead More there is a "15 minute rule" in the code. Basically, if the dog is barking for more than 15 continuous minutes, it's a violation subject to a fine. Call public safety at 475-1225. Keep in mind it's probably not their first priority (unless the dog has a bad attitude, and is carrying a weapon), but they will be responsive, eventually.
