New Changes for Village Ahead?

This Monday June 24th the Patchogue Board of Trustees will be voting on liberalizing zoning rules to permit a major development the right to go forward with additional planning and approvals. On the agenda is a requested approval for a zoning change that if approved will essentially green light a proposed nearly two acre, three to five story tall assisted living facility that will be located on east main street. The facility will bring in considerable new dollars of construction related spending and nearly a hundred new jobs when the facility opens sometime in 2015.

There will be a public hearing and that means that any person may appear and express their views about the proposal, ask questions, recommend a nay or yea vote by the Trustees.

For additional resources to help people sort their feelings out about this proposal readers of the Patch are reminded that a video does exist taken at the time the owners made their representation to the Planning Board about what the facility will look like and how it will impact the village for example with respect to parking. This video can be found on the website of the Citizens Committee for Open Village Government. Go to:

The first page will open and under the tab “videos of other public meeting” look for the 3/26/13 video for the Planning Board which is posted. A narrative with time lines is provided and following the provided time lines will bring a viewer to that part of the video having to deal with the proposal.

While on the website you can also find other videos that are provided including a video of the last meeting of the Village Board of Trustees.

The agenda for the June 24th meeting can be found on the village’s website:

www.patchoguevillage.org/

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is held at Village Hall. The public hearing is scheduled for the early part of the meeting. Members of the public are urged to attend and help the trustees make the right decision for all the residents of the village of Patchogue. This is a large facility, it will be located on main street, traffic and parking issues are certainly issues that bear close examination.

For those who can not make the meeting but are otherwise interested in seeing how the decision making process actually unfolded a video of the meeting is going to be taken by the Citizens Campaign for Open Village Government and will be posted shortly after the meeting.

Readers of the Patch may also find using this additional tool as well. Trustee Packets, information handed out just to trustees and not the public are also posted on line usually around the same time as the video of a meeting is posted. The packets often contain back up documentation regarding issues discussed by the Board and provide a rich source of public information not normally seen by the public. Look for a link to a PDF document so titled that accompanies each and every video along with the time line narrative that allow viewers to find points on interest in a video without having to view the entire video.

And if you have any feedback about the video project undertaken by the Citizens Campaign for Open Village Government please take advantage of our email option also found on the website and let us know how you feel.
