Battle on the Bay Mural Defaced

A mural depicting Patchogue's Battle on the Bay was vandalized by graffiti.

On the corner of Academy Street and South Ocean Avenue sits La Confianza Deli & Restaurant. The side of the building features a large mural depicting the annual boat race on the Great South Bay, which has in recent years become a favorite tradition in our village.

This act of vandalism is an insult to all of Patchogue's residents, who have worked so hard to beautify their community. We would hope to see the building owner more swiftly to remove the damage. Rapid removal sends the message that such acts will not be tolerated in our village. The longer it sits, the more empowered the perpetrators feel.

A community's murals help illustrate the values and character of the people. To destroy them should be an offense to everyone.
