Op-Ed: In Support of a Walmart

Have an opinion on a local issue? Email it to michael@patch.com or apply to be a blogger.

I think the residents of the Patchogue, Medford Neighborhood could use a store to help save money.

The area has a glut of discount 99 Cent, Dollar Tree, Super Saver, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and second hand stores. It's obvious the area economic base is not with Bloomingdales or Macy's.

I am sure Walmart buys their goods at the same places K-Mart and Kohl's get theirs. This store employees American workers and is owned by American's. No one complained when  and  built their Mega Stores.

I rarely shop in downtown Patchogue as there is only a few stores that sell what I want. I shop at Gateway Plaza, the Bellport outlets and wherever I can get a deal for my money. How many of you really shop in downtown Patchogue? I go there for the Theatre and Restaurants, which are great!

I am retired and need to save as much as possible. Walmart will help me realize that goal. My son lives in Parkland, Florida, a near perfect community of expensive and moderately priced homes in a well planned community of parks and lakes.

A large Walmart store is in this community and everyone shops there. Rich folks and poor folks can save in the same store.

What's your opinion?

Amanda, I see you are looking to raise funds. If your interested I can work out a Pampered Chef,Read More fundraiser for you? Your friends and family shop for themselves as they would at a party, but instead of you earning FREE product, you will earn funds. As long as it can be made payable to an organization/team or school. We can set you up on Facebook and everyone orders right from their couch! Let me know :) Patricia S My business page: www.facebook.com/luvz2cook4u

Your barking dog complaint in North Patchogue is handled by Public Safety, Town of Broohaven. CallRead More them at 451-6161 and they will take action. The first time the owners will be warned, the next time they will receive a summons.

Don't know what the Town ordnance is, but if you live within the Village of Patchogue, I believeRead More there is a "15 minute rule" in the code. Basically, if the dog is barking for more than 15 continuous minutes, it's a violation subject to a fine. Call public safety at 475-1225. Keep in mind it's probably not their first priority (unless the dog has a bad attitude, and is carrying a weapon), but they will be responsive, eventually.
