Sound Off: Is Enough Being Done to Combat School Bullying?

A Staten Island teen takes her own life Monday after being bullied by classmates.

On Monday, a 15-year-old from Staten Island, who relatives say was bullied at school, jumped in front of a bus and later died of her injuries, according to The Huffington Post.

Amanda Diane Cummings was carrying a suicide note at the time of the crash in Staten Island.

From Huff Po:

Cummings was a sophomore at New Dorp High School and according to the girl's uncle, Keith Cummings, she had been bullied by peers.

The relative spoke to the Staten Island Advance on the alleged bullying and said Amanda was tormented after bullies stole her possessions including her jacket, phone, and shoes.

He said they were even posting cruel, inappropriate comments on Amanda's Facebook wall while in the hospital after being struck by the bus.

Numerous Long Island school districts have instituted new anti-bullying policies and intensified education on the topic in recent years, but today's question: Is enough being done to combat bullying in schools?

Were you ever bullied in school? Has your child dealt with bullies at school? Is the problem becoming worse? Vote in the poll below and share your thoughts in the comments.

Your barking dog complaint in North Patchogue is handled by Public Safety, Town of Broohaven. CallRead More them at 451-6161 and they will take action. The first time the owners will be warned, the next time they will receive a summons.

Don't know what the Town ordnance is, but if you live within the Village of Patchogue, I believeRead More there is a "15 minute rule" in the code. Basically, if the dog is barking for more than 15 continuous minutes, it's a violation subject to a fine. Call public safety at 475-1225. Keep in mind it's probably not their first priority (unless the dog has a bad attitude, and is carrying a weapon), but they will be responsive, eventually.
