Accident Near Horseblock Road and LIE

Update: One dead, six injured in crash.

One woman was killed and six others injured in a two-car collision on Monday at 4:48 p.m., which closed the Horseblock Road bridge that runs over the Long Island Expressway in Medford.

According to Suffolk County Police, Fawan Ali attempted to make a left onto Express Drive North in a Toyota from Horse Block Road but collided into a southbound pickup truck driven by Stanley Vaughan.

Anjum Zubair, 53, a passenger in Ali's Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Vaughn, his passenger, Ali and four other people sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The Toyota appeared to have excessive damage to the roof and door of the small car. Suffolk County Police and ambulance corps were on scene. 

Investigation into the accident is ongoing.
