Aug. 27: Evacuating for Hurricane Irene, Storm News Roundup

Hurricane Irene's weather is expected to start affecting Long Island Saturday through the storm's start on Sunday. Here is a roundup of important information about the storm that you should know:

1. Brookhaven Town has mandated that several coastal towns evacuate, including Patchogue and East Patchogue under Main Street. The evacuation center is Longwood High School, 100 Longwood Rd. in Middle Island. .

2. Patchogue Village will be providing buses to Longwood High School from Village Hall, 14 Baker St. The buses will leave at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. .

3. Residents who do not want to leave their car on their property can park it at any municipal or train station parking lot for the duration fo the storm.

4. Restaurants and bars in Patchogue Village will close on Saturday at 10 p.m. The goal is for there to be no traffic by 11 p.m. on Saturday. .
