Bookstore, Barber Shop Catch Fire

No injuries reported; exact cause under investigation

A fire broke out at approximately 11:30 a.m. Monday at 76 N. Ocean Ave.

The mixed-use occupancy building houses Side Street Books, Richie's Barber Shop and a personal residence. No injuries were reported.

Ryan Murphy, fire prevention chairman of the Patchogue Fire Department, said that damage was kept to a minimum and localized to the apartment area.

Patchogue and Blue Point Fire Departments were on scene. The departments were able to defuse the fire within the hour.

Traffic on North Ocean Avenue surrounding the incident was blocked during the fire.

Suffolk County Police reported it as an electrical fire, but the Patchogue Fire Department said the exact cause is still under investigation.
