Photos: Breakfast with Santa at Medford Fire Department

Large turnout for community breakfast helps kick off the holiday season.

Close to 700 people attended this year's pancake breakfast with Santa Claus hosted by the Medford Fire Department.

Members of the fire department cooked pancakes, sausage and bacon for each guest as well as serve coffee and orange juice. Plates of food are served tableside by the Medford Fire Department Juniors. While waiting for their breakfast, guests had the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts from local craft vendors, purchase items from the FD bake sale, or visit with Santa and get a souvenir picture.

Brian Greck, advisor of the Juniors, was thrilled by this year's turnout.

"Intially it was to raise money to provide the Juniors funding for activities and it has just grown into a great community event," Greck said.

Michael Gorton, President of the Medford Chamber of Commerce, attended the breakfast for the first time with his wife and one year old son.

"This event is fantastic. It's great that the firehouse opens their door to the community and that the Juniors all help to serve breakfast. It kicks off the holiday season," Gorton said.

Tickets were $7 per adult and $3 per child. Money raised at the breakfast help fund activities for the Juniors as well help alleviate costs for uniforms and fire safety equipment. The Juniors are currently also donating money to help a child who is very sick.
