Brief: Medford Fire Damages Home

No injuries reported, but home sustained extensive damages in afternoon fire.

A residence on Mount Vernon Avenue in Medford sustained extensive damages in a fire Sunday afternoon. While the house was evacuated and no injuries were reported, a member of the Medford fire police said that the house was fully involved in the fire.

Medford Fire Department Chief Norm Melcher said that the department was called to the scene at approximately 12:00 p.m., and the North Patchogue and Holtsville fire departments also responded.

Traffic onto Mount Vernon Avenue from the intersections of Southaven Avenue to Greenport Avenue was closed for one-hour, 15-minutes, during the incident.

Melcher said that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
