Child Struck By Truck in Bellport

Nine-year-old boy listed in critical condition.

A nine-year-old boy riding his bicycle in Bellport was struck and seriously injured by a pick-up truck driven by an alleged drunk driver Saturday night.

The boy was hit while riding on the sidewalk by Medford's Roberto Fuentes, who ran his 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck with no headlights through a stop sign at the intersection of Patchogue Avenue and Post Avenue. He also struck a 2001 Infiniti driven by Ramona Turner.

Fuentes fled after the crash, but Suffolk County police arrested him soon after the incident, charging him with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, reckless driving, aggravated vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident, driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree and resisting arrest.

The boy was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition. Suffolk County cops did not say whether Turner or Fuentes sustained injuries.
